Greetings to all of you and may you have a nice day ahead. At times, I find myself becoming hard and much in need of something to fill me up and restore my deadened senses. The ocean getaway would be the answer, I love being there honestly. The ocean satiates my senses and rejuvenates my spirit. It awakens me from my trance, imposed upon me by the insensibility of the world. For me, the ocean has always represented escape, new beginnings, adventure.

What things lie on the other side, what wonders does it hold in its deeps?

To be frank, I have read in this one article about Wallace J. Nichols, a marine biologist, believes that we all have a “blue mind” as he puts it, “a mildly meditative state characterized by calm, peacefulness, unity, and a sense of general happiness and satisfaction with life in the moment”- that is triggered when we are in or near water. That could be one of the reasons why I love the ocean so much. The ocean has always been my remedy for relieving tension, stress, and anxiety. As soon as I jump in my worries are lost.

There is nothing more soothing than the sound of waves crashing along the shore line as I breathe in the air. They say that living near the beach can improve your focus and concentration. There is something about the sandy, natural environment that allows you to feel as though you are one with the sun, with the earth and with the air. Life can be chaotic, always running from place to place, sometimes I need a getaway from all of those. I love being carefree and sometimes I just need to take a deep breath, to slow down and to appreciate my surroundings. I feel like time stops passing by for a moment, and  I feel at ease when I am at the beach.

I am a sucker for palm trees dotting the horizon, that is the view I want to wake up to everyday. However, I love the ocean because of how it makes me feel, rather than the aesthetic factor. I am sure everyone has their own reasons but for me, here is what matters, the windy and breezy air, sound of waves, the soothing blue colored ocean,  all of those add up to the chilling factor of the ocean.

You know, everything about the ocean is photography-worthy, but there is not a single picture can ever truly capture the beauty of the sun rising and setting over the ocean. For those of you who are privileged enough to live near the beach, we never have to leave behind the calming aesthetic of the shore, there is no denying that nature is its own work of art.

There is a certain feeling of the sea that is so mesmerizing. It tells you to relax, and stay for a while, but at the same time, it pushes you to be curious and to explore the unknown parts of the sea, the infinity. That is the ocean kind of love I have.

Love, Syfka

  1. This is so beautiful <3 I can relate to it a lot, and I miss being able to seek comfort from the ocean. I used to study in Terengganu, and the beaches there have been a good friend of mine. It always calms me down, no matter how horrid of a day I went through. It's true that it is a privilege for those who can always step on the sandy beaches whenever they want. I'm hoping I'll be able to settle down in a comfy home near the beach one day, and I hope the same for you too <3
